Good cat food is essential for your cat’s health. It doesn’t matter which food you feed your cat – canned (wet) food, dry food or cook it yourself, but it’s important to make sure it’s healthy and suitable for the age of your cat.
Good food for your cat is essential for her health. It’s not important what kind of food you feed your cat – canned (wet) food, dry food or cook it yourself, but it’s important to make sure it’s healthy and appropriate for the age of the cat.
Cat food is different from adult cat food, just like human food. They must have a diet that is conducive to healthy growth.
Protein in the form of meat, poultry, fish or eggs is a very important ingredient in your cat’s food to ensure her health.
Many, though probably not all, canned foods that are labelled as containing chicken, meat or fish must be carefully checked for the percentage of this ingredient and what it consists of. Some pet food manufacturers have been found to include chipped bones, beaks (of chicken) and offal (parts such as intestines, lungs, brain, etc.) and include that as part of the overall percentage of the ingredient concerned.
From canned cat food you also pay for water (which is a surprising amount of total amount) and grain to pack the actual food outside. Usually, the cheaper the food, the poorer the quality. If you don’t cook your cat’s own food, it’s really worth paying a little more to know that your cat gets the right nutrients. This is compensated for because your cat will have to eat less expensive food to stay healthy. There are currently many single dose packages on the market and I think they are better than canned varieties. They are cheaper and one pack will feed two of my cats every night. They also contain a little more food per pack and are definitely more friendly when it comes to disposal and landfill.
Cats need a variety of foods, the same as people. Can you imagine that cats, chickpeas and peas are fed seven days a week, fifty-two weeks a year? You would be ill after the first week. Your cat is the same. Change her around, serve her dry food (biscuits, etc.) twice or three times a week and different canned or pre-packaged food for the rest of the week. If your cat is not on a strict diet, dry food (and plenty of fresh water) should be available at all times for your cat to graze. Unlike dogs, your cat will only eat as much as she needs. Many dry cat foods are also quite rich in carbohydrates and cats don’t need too much carbohydrates. Why not buy some frozen pet food from time to time and cook it. Of course, if your cat has special needs such as diabetes, talk to your vet about special cat food.
Remember that the best cat food needs a healthy and nutritious diet just as much as you do. Not only do you save money on your vet’s bills, but you also extend the life of your cat by feeding her protein-rich food. Good food for your cat is good sense.
